A fixture of the local community, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has several spaces that bring individuals together beyond academics.

Alice Campbell Alumni Center

The Alice Campbell Alumni Center is a venue space with a ballroom, lounges, and meeting rooms. The center is also the home of the Illinois Alumni Association and the Richmond Family Welcome Gallery. Learn more about the Alumni Center.

Allerton Park and Retreat Center

Built as a private residence by artist and philanthropist Robert Allerton in 1900, Allerton Park and Retreat Center is a historical treasure that was donated to the University of Illinois in 1946. The property contains 1,500 acres of woodland and prairie areas, a mansion and reflecting pond, a 10-acre meadow, formal sculpture gardens, hiking trails, a café, and several lodging facilities. Alma Mater

Perhaps the most recognizable symbol of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is the iconic Alma Mater statue. Crafted by the renowned sculptor and alumnus Lorado Taft ‘1879, the statue features three women in scholastic robes. Engraved on the base of the statue is the inscription, “To thy happy children of the future, those of the past send greetings.” Watch the 2018 documentary about Alma Mater.

Illini Union

Located at the heart of campus, the Illini Union is home to study spaces, program offices, meeting rooms, a Food Court, and a Rec Room for students and faculty alike to congregate, study, or relax. Learn more about the Illini Union.

Main Quad

The main campus quadrangle, anchored by the Illini Union to the north and Foellinger Auditorium to the south, is an open grassy area at the heart of campus that overflows with activity throughout the school year. View the Quad Cam.

Richmond Family Welcome Gallery

The Richmond Family Welcome Gallery at Alice Campbell Alumni Center is a showcase for the heritage and global impact of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Made possible through the generosity of the late Jack and Marjorie Richmond, the gallery features interactive exhibits about the past, present, and future of the university.
