Since 1967, the Intensive English Institute (IEI) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has helped thousands of international students and professionals improve their English language proficiency.

Now as part of Global Education and Training, IEI continues to provide full-time and part-time curriculum options in its intensive English programs, as well as special group programs for international universities, businesses, educational agencies, and other university units. English language coursework can be included in all GET programs to provide in-house language instruction to participants.

Services and Support

• Encourages international visiting scholars, students, teaching assistants in university departments and trailing spouses/partners to enroll in IEI’s intensive English courses to improve their English proficiency.
• Develops intensive English programs for international groups associated with university departments and programs.
• Processes requests for workshops or courses in conversational English, reading, pronunciation, grammar usage, and vocabulary development. IEI also handles topics about giving formal presentations, writing research papers, and letter writing.
